A recent big development for Falcon Shopfitters, in conjunction with Northpoint Interior Designers, was the new Windmill Casino and Entertainment Centre in Bloemfontein. This Sir Herbert Baker inspired development totals a R240 million cash investment for the region and is bound to have numerous positive spin-offs for the local economy.

According to Davidson the main design consideration was to create a complex that is sensitive to its surroundings and to keep the scale and exterior facade as harmonious as possible. This first for Bloemfontein will house a casino gaming floor which measures 1 411 m2 and is divided into smoking and non-smoking areas.The area is equipped with 230 slot machines and 10 tables.There is of course the capacity for future expansion.
Servicing the gaming floor is the can-can walk up bar. Other facilities include the two main conference rooms, Windmill rooms A and B, which can be opened up into one main conference venue, seating approximately 190 people.

Falcon was extensively involved in the manufacturing and installation of the show bar, Diamond Lil's which features an island bar with saddle bar stools and a sunken table seating arrangement looking onto a small stage area.The buffet in Rosie's Brasserie is another Falcon first and they were responsible for shopfitting the dining room.
The casino's interior theme is Moulin Rouge for its bright vibrancy while floor finishes range from a '30s style design to rich timbers and laser cut marble and granite tiles.The theme lends itself perfectly to the use of dramatic colours such as reds, pinks and golds which are combined with natural timber shopfitting features.
The conference centre was created using a Victorian theme, with timber floors, painted timber mouldings, and rich textured walls.The flush plastered ceilings combined with central timber panelled inserts create a striking focal point to each space.

In keeping with the environmental policies at Falcon it has a very strong policy on using products that have an FSC forest certification. A recent trip to Ligna was to ascertain the benefits of sourcing machinery which will enable it to use more veneers than solid woods as the price as well as the availability of timber is going to become cost prohibitive.
